In 2018, five Scandinavian industry partners joined to look for solutions to the decarbonisation challenge in the maritime industry. From what was called the ZEEDS initiative, our MS Green Ammonia idea was born – an ammonia-fuelled ammonia tanker – the basis for what will become the Grieg ammonia distribution vessels
The Ammonia distribution vessels will ensure the transportation of ammonia from production facilities in Norway to the markets along the coast of Norway and Norther Europe.
We have designed a range of different-sized ammonia tankers, which we will build as the production and demand of ammonia materialises. DNV has given approval in principle (AIP), and we continue to develop and finetune the design.
The ZEEDS initiative started with Wärtsilä, DFDS, Equinor, Aker Solutions, and Grieg Edge. In what is called ZEEDS Arctic, we have also worked closely with Kværner, Statkraft, Store Norske, Varanger Kraft and Statnett.
